Celebrating 59 Years in Business

Pettis Pools was established in 1962 when Erma & Larry Pettis, who were both teachers at the time, were looking through the business classifieds for an opportunity to supplement their income during the summer – perhaps a hardware store they thought. 

Then they saw the ad that would change their lives; Fox Inground Pool Dealership Available! In 1962 inground swimming pools were considered only for the rich & famous and here Erma & Larry were in rural Hilton, NY. And that began the business that, to date, has spanned 59 years, two retail store locations, over 70 employees, thousands of beautiful pool installations and most importantly, almost six decades of making friends. 

The Pettis Family is grateful for your support these many years. The second generation has been running the business solely since 2012, after the sad passing of Erma Pettis. In 2020, we were proud and excited to say that a third generation Pettis has joined the business! We look forward to carrying on our family’s tradition of excellent and honest service, great value, and down home friendliness for many years to come!

 

Pettis Pools also sponsors the annual Pettis Family Entrepreneurship Award Business Plan Competition, which helps fund an original business idea by students at The College of Brockport. Julie Pettis established the award in honor of her parents, Larry and Erma, who were not only active supporters of the Brockport alumni community, but also took a risk by starting the family pool business in 1962. At Pettis Pools, we appreciate the “go for it” attitude, perseverance, dedication and integrity it takes to become successful business leaders, and we enjoy seeing driven young adults make their dreams a reality.
